Kasteeltuinen - Arcen
What is it all about Kasteeltuinen? Kasteeltuinen is a medium sized water castle consisting of the outer bailey and the water castle or coprs de Logis. The most important asset of the water castle is the adjacent landscape garden, a rose garden, a garden parterre with a large cascade and fountain system at its centre. Kasteeltuinen means Castle Gardens and the complex is situated in the Town of Arcen in the Dutch province of Limburg and lies in close distance to the Dutch-German border.
Kasteeltuinen is widely known and acclaimed for the beauty and layouts of the castle gardens. The gardens are open to visitors from April to October.
The set-up of the garden complex is such that the visitor will always find a spot of tranquility to rest there and enjoy the beauty of the plants around; even when the garden is highly frequented by other visitors.
Season tickets are available at Kasteeltuinen. Everyone interested in gardening and landscape gardens will get one's money worth with the season ticket.
The visitor to Kasteeltuinen is guided to the park entrance over a stonebuilt bridge crossing the castle moat leading to the powerful gate tower at the outer bailey, pictured at the above image. The outer bailey is, nowadays, a two-winged complex that is home to the ticket office and the entrance to the park.
We went only a few kilometers across the border to Arcen in the Netherlands. Arcen is well known for its asparagus and there is a little castle with a garden that is well worth the travel. As you can see the castle building is nice to look at and fits well into the landscape. Though it is the garden that will really catch your interest. You will love it. The following image gallery will give you an insight of what is at offer there. The area is open from late March to early November each year. A seasonal ticket for the entire period is available as well as single tickets and group tickets. Please consult their website for further details.
The garden offers much for everyone.
Once a year, the Cosplay Community convenes at Kasteeltuinen and meets with photographers for special shootings.
The garden keeps changing its colours over the year which makes it very interesting to watch and spend time there.
For me, being a photographer, there is much to do and I will certainly get my seasonal ticket first thing next year.
Coy Fish at Kasteeltuinen
Kasteeeltuinen owns a large system of moats and ponds in which a large number of coy fish are at home. It is allowed to feed the fish with fish feed that can be bought at € 0,20 per handful from a dispenser. Feeding the coy fish is great fun, the fish come close enough to let drop the fish feed directly into their open mouth. The fish feed dispensers are distributed across the complex.
It must be mentioned that Kasteeltuinen has quiet a reputation for their large population of coy fish.
Water Castle Arcen
Water Castle Arcen, within the complex of Kasteeltuinen, is a two-winged castle, accessible over an arched stone bridge. It is possible to visit the interior of the castle. Every now and then, there are events held in the castle.
