Vienna is more than just a metropolitan city. Vienna is situated on the river Danube, it is the capital of Austria, with over 1.9 million people it is Austria's largest city by far, it is the cultural, political and economic centra of Austria. Vienna is still influential in the south and East of Europe and it also hosts many manjor international organisations such as the UN, OPEC and OSZE.
Having said that, these facts are all good to know but is it the reason why we go to Vienna to spend some quality time there? No, certainly not. We are travelling to Vienna because Vienna is pure vitality, the joy of living, the Viennese way of living, because we want to enjoy a metropolis. The flair of Vienna is more contagious and exiting.
Vienna is the modern metropolis that is full of historic buildings and also full of modern style architecture, though everything blending into each other without problem.
Going to Vienna means you are having a busy time because there is so much to see. Even if you enjoy one of the many Vienna coffee houses.
Horse-powered sightseeing - Vienna's Fiaker
The most common sightseeing vehicle in Vienna is the famous Fiaker a horse-drawn carriage. They are simple all over the place, wherever you go within the boundaries of the historic vienna. And by far, the fiaker, which is basically an open-top carriage, is the best way to see a lot of Vienna old town. The draught horses know their way and the horses's driver is actually doing the explaning while leaning back and talking directly to passengers. The horses manage to get round the city. Its amazing.
Vienna - Saint Stephen's Cathedral
Saint Stephen's Cathedral is the main church of the Roman Catholic Church in Vienna. The church is situated at Stephansplatz in the middle of the city cente and a visitor's magnet. Without exaggeration, the place is crowded every day, probable thousands go inside to watch the lavish interior. The church we know today was built between 1339 - 1365 and is mostly a gothic church with romanesque parts.
